What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a holistic therapy that brings our body, mind and soul into balance. We use principles from ancient therapies such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with scientific information on how our brains and bodies work gained from modern medicine, to identify where and why stress is being held in the body, and what needs to be done to to bring us back into a balanced state.
To be in a balanced state is to be healthy, happy, and to have the feeling that we are on the right path. We get thrown out of balance by stress in its many forms - traumatic experiences, exposure to toxins, poor diet and lifestyle choices, work/life imbalance, accidents and injuries.
Our bodies have an incredible ability to bring themselves into balance, especially when we are looking after ourselves, allowing our bodies to release stress. However, if nothing appropriate is done to allow our minds and bodies to resolve and release our stress, we will eventually come to a tipping point, where our ability to bounce back from challenges is reduced and we suffer as a result. It may be that our physical health fails, we develop chronic disease, we are in pain, depressed, have mental health issues, we don’t feel right and we don’t know why, we are not coping with even simple challanges, or we just feel stuck.
What does Kinesiology do to help?
Our bodies are a complex network of energy flow, both in the subtle energy sense as described by the meridians in Chinese Medicine and the chakras as described in ancient texts from India, and in the physical sense, such as the blood, lymph, hormones, and neutotransmitters that flow through our body in response to a complex array of physiological processes.
Disease, discomfort, mental and physical health issues, and pain occur when the flow of energy is impacted by stress, leading to blockages and stagnation, causing a breakdown in communication on some level - such as the mind-body-spirit communication, the connection between the brain and the body, or the connection between the conscious/subconscious/unconscious aspects of our being. The innate wisdom of the body, which knows how to keep the body in balance, loses it’s ability to instigate self-healing, and we become unwell.
Kinesiology helps by finding where those blockages are, where communication has broken down, and identifies how the energy can be shifted to allow the innate wisdom to begin the healing process. This information is found using an indicator muscle, which communicates with our nervous system, subconscious and unconscious aspects to identify areas of structural, emotional, biochemical or energetic stress. When stress is cleared and communication with our innate wisdom is restored, quite often a simple technique can be applied to allow the body to activate self-healing and return to balance.
By working directly with the nervous system, the subconscious and unconscious realms in this way, we can address the root of our issues rather than the symptoms.

How might you feel after a session?
Changes that people have reported feeling after a kinesiology session include:
a sense of lightness or relief, like a weight has been lifted from their shoulders
a greater connection with their body, and an understanding of the messages that their body has been giving them
a feeling of empowerment, that comes with knowing why they have been feeling or behaving in a certain way, and what they need to do to move out of that pattern
tired - sometimes a balance can take time to integrate, and in that time your body is working to reset. It’s important to allow yourself the time to rest if you feel tired.
A little bit off. Often we are so used to feeling a certain way, that to feel differently is a bit weird. Be gentle with yourself.
A little bit sick. When we shift energy in the body, a physical release of toxins can occur which can make you feel a bit sick. It’s really important to make sure you are adequately hydrated so that toxins can be flushed from the body. You will feel better for having had this release!
Whatever your immediate reaction to a kinesiology balance is, know that you have taken steps to release what no longer serve you, to allow you to move towards the best version of yourself.
